Motivation and Career Choice: A Qualitative Study

The research entitled Motivation and career choice: A qualitative study on the reasons expressed by women career students of Psychology, Psychopedagogy and Sociology, aimed at describing and analyzing the motivation of the women in the sample, framed in the analysis of the family situation, educational and work history and the reasons for starting a career in the age range studied, based on a case study with a cross-sectional qualitative empirical approach. The results obtained allow us to affirm that intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are present, being influential the age of initiation, gender and personal, family and work factors, as well as institutional determinants and factors related to social representations. The findings of this study are part of a previous research related to explore the motivations that move women between 30 and 40 years old to choose the entrance and start of the undergraduate careers of the Faculty of Psychology and Social Sciences of a private University in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
