Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the relationship between the type of kinship with the palliative family member and the emotional distress experienced by the primary family caregivers. The study was carried out with a sample of 156 caregivers of family members with varied pathologies in a palliative context. The sample was composed mostly of women (77.3%) and the average age was 61 years. The results indicate a greater psychological discomfort associated with the perception of the passage of time in sibling caregivers compared to other family relatives, which would confirm the importance of the family relationship in the experience of illness and care. The results highlight the importance of studying family variables when carrying out interventions in palliative contexts.
