Systematic review of the neuropsychological dynamics in the addict
Keywords:
Neuropsychology, addiction, neuroplasticity, treatment.Abstract
This systematic review article aims to present the phenomenon of neuroplasticity in dependence and abstinence from drug abuse, as well as its intervention and contribution to the addict through a method called seven steps of the therapeutic process of recovery. Currently, there are not enough studies that relate neuroplasticity as a neuropsychological process that contributes to the application of this method, which is a contemporary and unprecedented creation by the author, developed and observed in a treatment center for drug addicts called Little Community of Jesus in Serra –ES, Brasil. This approach can collaborate for several treatment models for addicts, so that in addition to containing the addictive disease, it also contributes to the individual's existential evolution. As a result, the implications of neuroplasticity in the addict's brain as a transformation factor through stimuli from his social context are discussed, which, together with the seven-step method, served as reinforcers that caused mental and behavioral changes in the addict's scenario in recovery. As a discussion and conclusion, he observed that the experiences lived and people who are close to the addict can be neuropsychological activators to contribute positively in their therapeutic recovery process.
